Hackney Half Marathon for The Wickers Charity
We are pleased to announce that Strettons will be supporting a Hackney-based charity by entering a seven-strong team in this year’s Hackney Half Marathon.
The Wickers Charity operates extensively within our east London heartland and supports 8 to 18-year olds in Hackney with the aim of reducing gang-related crime. The charity provides positive role models, learning opportunities, recreational activities and educational workshops to demonstrate ways to create a meaningful future.
The charity offers a range of classes and workshops from their community hub in Hackney Wick. As well as running graphic design and music production classes, The Wickers has hosted talks from inspirational speakers and workshops on current issues such as the dangers of gang crime.
Founded in 2018 by local businessman Henry Smith, CEO of Aitch Group, in collaboration with Hackney Wick Football Club who has been sponsored by Aitch group for a number of years, the creation of The Wickers Charity is the fulfilment of a Henry Smith’s long-held dream to support the youth of Hackney.
We have been inspired by the story of the charity and the work it does in the Borough that has been our home since 1931. Our team have already laced up their trainers and are out training in preparation for the event on 19 May, which begins at the Festival Village at Hackney Marshes.
We’re looking forward to working with the charity and raising as much money as possible at the event. The increased funding will help the charity to expand its services beyond the current one day a week, helping it to impact the lives of more young people in the Borough.
