Business Spotlight - LuggageHero
LuggageHero is a platform that works in partnership with businesses to store luggage. Founded in Denmark in 2016, LuggageHero arrived in London in March 2017 followed by New York in December of the same year. Since then, each city has seen a growing number of sites.
LuggageHero works similarly to Airbnb, allowing travellers to leave their luggage with participating ‘hosts’. Commercial property occupiers have partnered with LuggageHero, which is aimed at tourists who often check out of hotels early and depart later in the day. Centrally located properties are more convenient than customers having to go to a storage facility or train station to keep their belongings safe.
Luggage storage sites are located inside existing businesses, including retail outlets, hotels, cafes, and more. All sites are vetted by LuggageHero’s local team who performs regular quality checks. Businesses can partner with LuggageHero and charge the public for storing their luggage. Bookings are made in advance online and are nonbinding, with no fees for no-shows and customers are charged by the hour. It has a reputation for being easy to use, trusted and convenient; where customers only pay for the time their luggage is in storage.
It has allowed owners and managers of LuggageHero’s storage sites to enjoy increased visibility locally and online, while also gaining additional revenue as they can use their commercial space for more than it was initially intended. Our property management team have however had some problems with tenants “sub-letting” space to luggage hero and Landlords are advised to inspect their properties regularly, check their leases and ask their agent to advise whether any revenue share opportunity may exist.
