Café Du Cycliste open first UK store
Strettons advises on deal which sees chic cycling brand secure premier Artillery Lane location.
Chic French cycling clothing brand Café Du Cycliste has this month opened its first UK store in London, the company’s only other retail destination outside their flagship location in Nice’s Old Port on the Cote D’Azur.
Strettons advised on the deal, which has seen the company move into 32 Artillery Lane, Spitalfields, bringing the opportunity for cyclists in the capital and beyond to enjoy the benefits of having a well-located store which caters for the needs of the growing number of brand followers.
Indeed, it was the strength of the Café du Cycliste brand in the UK that made London the ideal location for the next stage of the company’s expansion.
Since launching in 2009, Café du Cycliste has built a reputation for its ability to combine high style with serious performance and has positioned itself at the forefront of the ‘new wave’ of contemporary cycling brands. Given its market position, Spitalfields was the ideal location for its UK launch.
Strettons’ director Mark Bolton comments, “Working with our landlord client on the deal has been a privilege and the new Café de Cycliste store looks fantastic. The vibrancy and historic nature of the Spitalfields neighbourhood echoes the characteristics of their Nice location. Whilst we couldn’t compete with the Mediterranean, this location benefits from being a popular destination for retail and leisure. Existing brand followers be able to make a beeline for the store courtesy of great tube links and its prominent presence on Artillery Lane is certain to attract new customers from those who stroll through the area.”
The UK store has been designed to reference the Provencal roots of Café du Cycliste, with traditional terracotta floor tiles and, despite the use of suspended cycling mannequins, feels closer to a high-end clothing store than a traditional cycling shop, making this a welcome retail destination to savour some modern Gallic flair.
The company took the 985 sq.ft store on a five-year lease.
