Strettons Secures Landmark Uxbridge Town Centre Sale to Buckinghamshire New University

February 26 2026

Strettons has completed the sale of the former Uxbridge Library building on High Street, Uxbridge, to Buckinghamshire New University (BNU), marking a significant education-led investment in the heart of the town centre.

The landmark five-storey building extends to approximately 32,591 sq ft and occupies a prominent position along the pedestrianised section of Uxbridge High Street. Its scale, configuration and town centre prominence make it one of the most substantial commercial buildings within Uxbridge’s primary retail and leisure district.

The building was declared surplus to requirements following the relocation of library services to the new and improved facility within the Middlesex Suite, which officially opened in April last year. The sale of the former library site has generated income for the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Strettons was instructed to market the property and generated strong interest from a range of occupiers and investors, ultimately resulting in BNU’s successful acquisition.

BNU intends to expand its higher education provision in Uxbridge, bringing new academic activity into the town centre and securing a long-term educational use for the well-known civic building. The transaction reinforces Uxbridge’s position as a centre for education, employment and skills, while supporting footfall along the High Street.

Sean Crowhurst, Commercial Agency Associate Director at Strettons, commented:

“This transaction highlights the continued demand for substantial, well-located town centre buildings where there is clear repositioning potential. Assets of this scale, particularly those with strong transport connectivity and civic prominence, remain highly attractive to education and institutional occupiers seeking long-term strategic locations.

We saw competitive interest throughout the process, which underlines confidence in Uxbridge as a commercial and educational centre. Securing Buckinghamshire New University as the purchaser ensures the building will be brought back into active use in a way that supports the High Street and provides long-term stability for the asset.”

Strettons continues to advise on strategic town centre and regeneration opportunities across London and the Home Counties, acting for public and private sector clients on complex freehold and long leasehold transactions.
